Makeup Trends We’re Loving for 2022

2022 – the year makeup becomes fun again. With 90’s revivals, graphic designs and bold hues, it’s the time to get creative and let your wildest looks roam free. There will be some looks you’ve seen before, as well as some fresh takes on old favourites, mixed in with the weird and wonderful. Whether you’re looking for something show stopping, or to reinvent your everyday makeup, we bring you a roundup of our favourite looks set to be big this year.

Radiant Skin

Radiant Skin

Time and time again, luminous, glowy skin takes the reins over full-coverage makeup. With more of us working from home, we have had time to invest in looking after our skin. With less commuting also comes less pollution and sun exposure, leading to generally healthier looking skin.

Don’t cover it up – let your freckles and natural skin shine through! Skip the foundation and use a radiance boosting primer instead (or a lightweight BB cream or foundation if you want a bit of coverage).

Negative Space Eyeliner

Negative Space Eyeliner

This is sure to make an impact. As this trend tends to be fleeting, use existing products to create the look. We recreated geographic shapes in creative colours using our lip definers in bright shades. Just be sure to keep the rest of your makeup clean and minimal for a fresh take on this look.

This trend can be taken to the extreme, with multiple lines and patterns created across the eye area. Or incorporate it into your daily makeup with a minimal approach – sometimes less is more.

Blush Draping

Blush Draping

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s Glow Up, you will know all about draping. Delicate sprays of colour across the apples of the cheek, swept up to the temples, lifting the face and adding a spring glow. Take the blush to eyelids, too, to tie in your whole makeup look.

While the pros use this technique to lavish the face in glitter and colour, we love to apply subtle peach or pink blush this way to freshen the face.

Diffused Lipstick

Diffused Lipstick

At Emoylne, we’re big fans of this look, perfect for spring/summer. Dab your lipstick onto lips with your finger and rub any remaining colour onto your cheeks for a fresh and healthy glow. This is great if you want your eye makeup to do the talking but still want a touch of colour.

We love to create that just-bitten lip using this technique – focusing the colour on the inner lips and then rubbing out towards the edges (and slightly over, if you like) with your fingertips.

Makeup/Skincare Hybrids

Makeup/Skincare Hybrids

As we transition back into the physical workplace, we predict makeup with skincare benefits to be more popular than ever. After many no-makeup days and a bit more time to prioritise our skincare routine, we don’t want to undo all our good work. New products have been popping up with these hybrids – perfect for those who don’t want to wear much makeup.

Ditch the foundation and focus on skin-friendly, hydrating primers that perfect the skin whilst providing antioxidants and hyaluronic acid. Or if you still want a bit of coverage, but want your skin to look like skin, try a BB or CC cream.

Juicy Lips

Juicy Lips

Matte lips. Glossy lips. Matte lips. Glossy lips. Each season crowns one of these lip looks the one to wear, and with spring on the horizon  we’re all for plump, juicy lips right now. We’re going full coverage colour with a glazed finish.

Our lipsticks are highly pigmented and long lasting, so start with applying lipstick from the bullet – if you want to create bigger, fuller looking lips line them first with the matching lip definer – then use a clear gloss to recreate this trend.
